For
many years, residents have been very concerned about the lack of a public
four-year university here in the North State. California policy makers are
not forecasting a university for the Redding area and thus another
alternative must be found so that students do not have to leave the
community to pursue advanced degrees. The solution: build a university
center on the Shasta College campus in partnership with CSU Chico, UC Davis,
Oregon Institute of Technology, Southern Oregon University, and National
University to each offer their own specialized four-year programs on an
outreach basis.

To build this new
University Center, the college district placed a bond measure on the ballot
on March 5, 2002.
