YOSHIKO SHIMANO EXHIBIT FEATURED

 

            Redding, CA — Shasta College is pleased to announce a one-person exhibit titled, “Unity Brings Peace,” by Yoshiko Shimano, at the Shasta College Art Gallery, Building 300, March 7 through April 22, 2005.  Professor of Art at the University of New Mexico, Shimano will exhibit her multicolored prints on rice paper.  Ms. Shimano uses overlays of lithography relief printing and serigraphs to form an airy, yet delicate printed surface. Her works have been exhibited widely throughout the U.S. and Japan.  This exhibit will give the Redding community a unique opportunity to view and enjoy the works of a world-renowned printmaker.  Additionally, Ms. Shimano will present a free lecture and slide presentation Wednesday, March 16, 2005, 11:00 a.m., Room 400, on the main campus.  Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Monday through Thursday evenings, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  There is no charge for admission.    

 

COMMUNITY JAZZ BIG BAND CONCERT

 

            Redding, CA — Shasta College is pleased to present its Community Jazz Big Band in concert Wednesday, March 23, 2005, 7:30 p.m., at the college theatre.  A true large-size jazz big band consisting of 22 musicians performs big band jazz from the 1930s through 2003, including music by Count Basie and other jazz notables.  Styles featured are Swing, Blues, Latin Jazz, and Ballads.  The concert is created for the entire family and for all ages to enjoy.  Admission is $2.00.  Profits from ticket sales benefit music purchases by the Band.  For additional information, please contact the Fine Arts and Communications at 225-4761 or the Community Jazz Big Band Conductor Dr. Larry Grandy at 225-4940.

 

SHASTA SYMPHONY ALL–BEETHOVEN CONCERT

 

            Redding, CA — The Shasta Symphony Orchestra’s first concert of the spring season is an All- Beethoven Concert, Sunday, April 10, 2005, 3:15 p.m., in the Shasta College Theatre, and includes featured piano soloist Dr. Carl Blake.  Dr. Blake will also give a Master Class Friday, April 8, 2005, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., in Room 400.  The All-Beethoven Concert is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Paul Chiles, late Shasta College trustee, division chairperson, and faculty member.  In addition to his many other community involvements, Dr. Chiles sustained a high level of interest in the Symphony and its artistic integrity throughout his many years in Redding.  Tickets are $10.00 for General Admission and $9.00 for Students and Seniors.
