Violence in Children's Lives |
| |
- The Center for
Children and Families in the Justice System has a comprehensive
website on domestic violence. Their valuable publications are available
to download, and I recommend this material to everyone who works with
young children. You may want to especially note their booklet,
Children Exposed to Domestic
Violence: An Early Childhood Educator's Handbook to Increase
Understanding and Improve Community Responses.
- The Child
Trauma Academy by Dr. Bruce Perry also has excellent resources
available for download.
Helping Traumatized Children is a booklet for caregivers and
professionals. For those who would like detailed information on violence
in children's lives, Dr. Perry has prepared
Violence
In Childhood.
-
Floortime is the one most important activity for parents and
professionals to help children who have emotional needs.
Stanley Greenspan, M.D.,
has developed Floor Time for all young children. The
Floortime Foundation
provides details on the technique. While the Floortime Foundation
focuses on children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders, their
Floortime
instructions are useful for all children.
- The California
Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General website
contains excellent information on child abuse, spousal abuse, and
information on safe families. The CA DOJ site includes a link to
SafeStart which also has outstanding
resources for family safety. This website includes the
Child Abuse
Prevention Handbook and the
Handbook Addenda,
both important documents for Early Childhood Educators.
