Resources for Enhanced
Learning These are optional
readings and resources of interest for Infant/Toddler Professionals: |
| |
-
Infant/Toddler Learning and Development Program Guidelines is a book
available to download online. This outstanding, comprehensive
publication is available as a free download from the California
Department of Education. The Guidelines is an excellent reference for
all infant/toddler/family programs.
- Infant Mental Health is a
specialty of early childhood and mental health fields. Please click this
link for additional information and downloads.
- The
Program for
Infant/Toddler Care website has many quality resources available for
download. This link will take you to their library.
-
12
Messages for Raising A Healthy Child are excellent reminders for all
of us on helping children. These are statements we will want to hang on
our refrigerator. Their
Brain
Builder page shows photos of a healthy brain and the brain of a
child who was neglected.
- The 40
Developmental Assets are "positive experiences and personal
qualities that young people need to grow up healthy, caring, and
responsible (quoted from their web page)." Asset lists for
Preschoolers,
Middle
Years children, and
Adolescents are available from their
website. I have provided
their asset lists for Infants and
Toddlers.
- The
Zero to Three
website contains many treasures for those interested in
infant/toddler/family work. There is wonderful information for parents
and professionals, including many booklets and handouts, free to
download (remember to register to access these resources). Be sure to
explore the many comprehensive sections of their
Key Topics, as well as the topics for
Professionals and
Parents.
It is particularly important for early childhood professionals to be
aware of policy issues. The Zero to Three section on
Public Policy contains information for all young children.
I have also included an article I wrote for the Zero to Three
professional journal, Perinatal
Mental Health in Shasta County, California.
- The California
Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General website
contains excellent information on child abuse, spousal abuse, and
information on safe families. The CA DOJ site includes a link to
SafeStart which also has outstanding
resources for family safety. This website includes the
Child Abuse
Prevention Handbook and the
Handbook Addenda,
both important documents for Early Childhood Educators.
- The Interdisciplinary Council on Developmental and Learning Disorders
(ICDL) allows you to download their entire ICDL Clinical Practice
Guidelines manual from their
DIR/Floortime Model page.
- The National
Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is the
professional organization of Early Childhood Educators. This web
site has outstanding information for parents and professionals.
Especially noteworthy are the Early Years Are Learning Years (EYLY)
articles. Be sure to spend some time checking the many resources
available to you on this page. I have included an article I wrote for Young Children, the journal for NAEYC here,
Working with Children of Substance Abusing Parents, for those
students interested in this topic.
- The
California Department of Education has many resources for children
ages 0 - 18. Their free
Downloads are available online.
