Sexual Assault Policy

Shasta College recognizes that sexual assault is a serious issue and will not tolerate acts of sexual assault on campus. The Redding Police Department and the Shasta College Security Department will investigate all allegations of sexual assault and take appropriate disciplinary, criminal, or legal action with prior consent of the victim.

As soon as the situation allows, the victim of a sexual assault should report the incident, including date or acquaintance rape to the Redding Police Department or the Shasta College Security Department. The victim should make every attempt to preserve any physical evidence of the assault. This may include a voluntary medical exam, not showering or disposing of any damaged clothing or other items that are present after/during the assault. Victims of sexual assault are encouraged to call any law enforcement agency by dialing 911 for crime investigation, referral or transport for medical treatment, and referral to crisis counseling and legal advocacy.

The Shasta College Security Department, with the victim's consent, will immediately conduct a criminal investigation of a reported sexual assault, and will contact a crisis counselor immediately, if the victim wishes. Every effort will be made to criminally prosecute perpetrators of sexual assaults. The accuser and the accused are entitled to the same opportunities to have others present during a campus disciplinary proceeding and both shall be informed of the outcome of the proceeding.

After an alleged sexual assault incident occurs, Shasta College will assist the victim in changing academic and living situations if so requested and if such changes are reasonably available.
