Services Provided by the Disability Resource Center

 | It is sometimes critical that students with disabilities enroll in a particular section
of a class (to insure access to a classroom, ordering appropriate texts on tape, etc.).
DRC offers priority registration to those students who qualify which enables
students to be in the first group to finalize registration. |
 | Scribes: Scribes (writers) are provided to students requiring assistance in producing
written material. Scribes write down material dictated by students for examinations,
research/term papers, and any other required writing assignments.
|
 | Lab Assistants: Lab Assistants perform the physical manipulation required for laboratory
procedures, under the direction of the student with a disability.
|
 | Research Assistants: Research assistants will help students do required research and
gather material under the direction of the student.
|
 | Tutors: Tutors provide specialized tutoring which is individualized and usually
one-on-one with presentation methods or materials used, adapted to mitigate the limiting
effects of the student's disability.
|
 | Note takers: Note takers provide notes to students who have a disability limiting their
ability to take in-class notes. The Learning Services Office usually recruits
note takers from students who are enrolled in the class in which the service is needed. |

 | Reader services are provided for students who cannot access regular printed text,
whether the disability is the result of a visual impairment, other physical disability, or
reading disability.
|
 | Textbooks on tape: Many textbooks are available on tape through the Recordings for
the Blind and Dyslexic RFB&D. If not available through RFB&D, readers will
be hired.
|
 | The Assistive Technology Lab has equipment that scans print electronically and converts
it to voice.
|
 | Readers are also provided during examinations.
|
 | Print enlargement and text copy to colored paper are services available as well. |
