Shasta College Students in Action

William Sickman, a Shasta College alum,  is nearing the end of his tour of duty in Iraq, and he put out a request for art supplies, books and toys suitable for the kids in Iraq.

Shasta College students and clubs mobilized and sent many boxes of materials.

Below are images of those items being distributed. William is not pictured in these photos--a friend of his took them as he was not permitted outside the wire to deliver the toys. I am including the text of a brief email he sent.

Hey here is Chaplain Collins mailing address, this will be a permit address for anyone who would like to still send toys, school supplys, shoes or coats to the Iraqi children. Ages run from new born babies to 17years of age.

Hello Robb, I sent you some picture of the Iraqi children receiving toys and school supplies that a lot of Shasta College students and staff sent to me. I was hoping when you have time if you could forward those pic out to the Shasta College staff, because I tried getting them out to them and I got a lot failure notices back.

                                                              THANKS LOTS,
                                                                                     WILL

Yes you may, I think everyone should see, cause its not like they report these kinds of thing on the news, they just wanna report when someone gets hurt or dies over here and I think that said, because there are so many other things they do a story on. If they print something I would love to have you save me a copy that would be cool. If they do a story there are people they should give credit to, Like you for one Heather Wylie and her son's school, Carla Clark, The Phi Theta Kappa,.. there was also a German Instructer at shasta college, who is the director of Northern Valley Catholic Social Services, I cant think of his name off the top of my head...but there were also may other Shasta College Instructors and Students that also help. I should had made a list of names, but by the time I thought of it, I had already received so many boxes that had already made there way into the Iraqi childrens' hands, I'm gonna feel bad if I forget to give credit to someone that helped out, I mean I got boxes of goodies for the Iraqi children from everywhere.

One came in last we from 3 children out of Newcastle,Wyoming. They made a poster and pasted there pictures of them riding there horses and a picture of them with the toys they were sending to the Iraqi children they were only like 8 and 10years of age. I just thought it was just way cool!! I've really tryed to get a thank you letter out to everyone, but I know I'm gonna miss some and not mean to. I guess I thought I was only gonna get a few boxes, boy was I surprised

Anyways thank you lots and lots

WILL

One other thing.... May I send these pics, and any other information, over to our local newspaper. I think it is important to see what you all are doing for the people over there.
