Gary Lewis

Community College District
Gary A. Lewis was born in Redding, California, and
graduated from Enterprise High School. He attended University of the
Pacific in Stockton, California and Arizona State University in Tempe,
Arizona. He earned his Baccalaureate and Master’s Degrees in Business
Administration from Arizona State University. Gary began his career at
Shasta College in January 1975 as a business instructor and head track
and field & cross country coach. He taught in the Business Division for
22 years and his coaching career spanned 21 years, accumulating 43
Golden Valley Conference championships in men’s and women’s cross
country and track and field.
Gary was named the California Community College Men’s Track and Field
Coach of the Year in 1991 and Women’s Track and Field Coach of the Year
in 1995. In 1998 he was honored with the Enterprise High School
Outstanding Alumnus award. He has been inducted into the Enterprise High
School Athletic Hall of Fame, Shasta College Athletic Hall of Fame, and
the Shasta County Sports Hall of Fame.
In January 1997 Gary used his leadership skills to move into College
Administration as Athletic Director. On July 1, 1997 he was named Dean
of Public Safety, Sports and Fitness, one of six divisions of the campus
instructional program. Under his leadership, he expanded the educational
and athletic programs for the College and increased outreach efforts in
the local community.
Gary held that position until he was appointed Interim Vice President of
Academic Affairs in December, 2002, when he oversaw all aspects of the
instructional program at Shasta College. In February, 2004, he was named
the permanent Vice President of Academic Affairs, a major leadership
role at the College.
Gary also served as a member of the Pacheco Union School District Board
of Trustees from 1995-2003 serving as president during five of those
years.
Gary has been active with the Boy Scouts of America and is currently an
assistant scoutmaster for Troop 37 in Redding. He is married to his wife Billie and has four boys, Jeff, Mark, Tim and Matthew.
