Letter from Birmingham Jail Group Assignment

In your groups, review your homework answers regarding Rogerian elements in LFBJ.

Compare and contrast the different answers each group member found.

Using the "best of" from each assignment, compile one group paper listing King's best examples of the five Rogerian argument elements:

bulletAvoiding a confrontational stance
bulletPresenting his character is one who understands and can empathize with the opposition
bulletEstablishing common ground with the opposition
bulletBeing willing to change your views
bulletDirecting your argument toward a compromise or workable solution.

Remember, your text says: "An argument does not have to be either entirely adversarial or entirely Rogerian.  You may use Rogerian techniques for the most sensitive points in an argument that is otherwise traditional or confrontational" (Reid 454).
