Current Reading:
Prentice Hall Guide for College Writers
"Chapter Three:
"Techniques for Writing
about Observations" The Perfect
Storm: "God's Country" |
|
In Class Agenda:
 |
Writing concept presentations: We'll take 10-15 minutes
for groups to finish preparing, then each should take 5-7 minutes to
present/teach their writing concept. |
 |
Toufexis Activity: We will go over "The
Right Chemistry" in class. You should have read this article at
LEAST two times before coming to class! |
 |
Thoughts on punctuation! |
 | 6.1 Understand "in-text citations."
 | View
this presentation.
|
 | Then turn
to pages 655-657 in your text (and add a bookmark here so you can return often),
and review the purpose of the in-text citation, and how it correlates with the
Works Cited page. |
 | Make certain you are reading about MLA style, not APA style.
|
 | Then create a document which answers these questions.
Please respond using complete sentences, and give me an example of the
parenthetical citation (you can make one up). Print your answers and
turn them in. |
- How do you cite a work in a parenthetical citation when the author is unknown?
- How do you do a parenthetical citation when you
have already cited the author in the text?
- How do you cite a source from the Internet or the
Web in a parenthetical citation?
- How do you cite a source with two authors in a
parenthetical citation?
- How do you cite a source with three or more
authors in a parenthetical citation?
- If you're citing the same author more than once (without other authors
in between), how is the parenthetical done on the second and third (or more)
citation?
Remember that you will need to use this information
throughout the semester, so take care to learn it now and refer to this portion
of your book often!
|
 | In WebCT under assessments, begin working on Quizzes for Chapters One through Four. It is OK to do
this open book. Also take the MLA quiz, if you have not done so before.
You may wish to review the PowerPoint about MLA style found on the Agenda
for Day Five before taking this quiz. Let's work on having these
quizzes completed by the end of next week. You can do them from home. |
 | The
library assignment for Explanatory Essay will be assigned next week.
Bibliography and Library report from this assignment due one week from
today. |
 |
|
 |
Ponder the "topic
pitch." If you do not have a bibliography to review, please review
the library assignment from last time and do a topic search in EbscoHost.
Mail your results to yourself to use for next class.
