Homework Due Wednesday:
5.1. Your summary (approximately
100-150 words) of a journal article is due Wednesday. You need to include
(right on the summary, new page not required) a correct bibliographic entry for the
article. The article must also be turned in. Paperclip
or staple this all
together. Summary, citation, and article always needed for full 30 point
credit.
5.2. Read "Techniques for Writing about Observations" in
your text. In The Perfect Storm, continue reading "God's
Country." Watch
for similes, and begin looking for metaphors. A metaphor is "a
direct or implied comparison suggesting that A is B: "At the dinner
table, George is a vacuum cleaner" (Reid 82). Underline all of the similes and
metaphors you find. (You might make a list of the page numbers so you can find them
again easily if you need to.)
