Agenda Day Twenty-Three

Wednesday, May 23rd

Thanks for a great semester!

Final

3:30 - 5:30

Important notice

Practice "raw material" for bibliography

You do not need a scantron today.

1.  Prepare for a test on "A Worn Path."  You should be familiar with facts and details in the story.  Ten questions:  50 points total.

2.  For the MLA quiz portion of the final; we will have 25 questions.  A scantron is not needed, we'll take these quizzes in WebCT.  Be prepared to answer detailed T or F questions about the MLA handout we have used this semester.  The questions are worth 4 points each (100 points total)

3.  Be prepared to create a perfect bibliography from raw material.  Periods, colons, and parenthesis count as serious points, so learn where they go!  You should know how to do a basic book citation, a citation using two authors, a basic article citation, and a citation which includes volume and issue information.  Review these different citation styles in your text or in Hacker.  Students should demonstrate that they know these citation styles well in order to pass this section of the final.  100 points total.

4.  There will be a research/essay component to the final requiring at least 500 words concerning The Perfect Storm.  Be prepared to introduce direct quotations using signal phrases, and to "blend" your direct quotations smoothly.  For a review on these terms, look at the PowerPoint presentation here.  Students should not submit papers containing dropped quotes, fragments, poor punctuation, or papers lacking parenthetical citations.  You will need to make a brief works cited for material found on the web and/or databases.  I will provide citation guidelines for these citations (since I believe they are too complicated to expect you to memorize).  200 points total
