Library Assignment
Rationale
|
 |
2.1 Read "Tales
of Woe" online.
Then compose a document of at least 500 words, telling me about some of
your own "Tales," if you have told any. If you have never made any excuses
for late papers, tell me what strategy you have used to always get your papers
in on time. We will write for 20-30 minutes. After this, you'll
share your "tale" in a read-around with three other students. Each group
will choose the most entertaining tale and each group will share its tale with
the class. |

Consider "Academic

2.2 Some online grammar exercises: I
noticed some run-on sentences and comma problems in your 1.1 assignments.
Let's do some online exercises to mediate these problems!
 |
PowerPoint review. |
 |
Click the "Hacker's A
Writer's Reference"
link, and then choose the "grammar exercises" tab. In the
next page, select "grammatical sentences," then do the three "run on
sentences" exercises. To begin your exercise session, enter your
registered name, and my email address:
phanford@shastacollege.edu.
Make certain to enter my name correctly -- or I won't be able to access your
scores! |

Homework Due Today:
1.3 Library Report
 |
Create a document in MS Word which
reports in detail how you completed the library assignment. |
 |
View a sample of a completed assignment
here. |
1.4 Bibliography
 |
Review the MLA-style entry format for listing books that
we discussed in class. You may also access the
Book Citation Guide online. |
 |
Use the five iLink listings
saved from your library assignment and create a
correctly formatted bibliography in MS Word. |
 |
View a properly formatted sample of
this assignment here. |
 |
Make certain you have formatted your
page correctly; incorrectly formatted bibliographies
will be returned. |
Homework for Monday:
2.4.
In your The Perfect Storm reading
assignment, underline or highlight the portions of the text
that stand out for you in terms of the writing.
 |
Select one paragraph from this selection
and write 250 words about what you liked (or perhaps what
you didn't like!). Don't simply
repeat the selection, explain why you liked or disliked this section
of writing. This document should be typed and
should reflect your best grammar and spelling. This
is due Monday. |
Also, be very familiar with
The Prentice Hall Guide
for College Writers,
"Writing
Myths and Rituals." There may be a quiz!
