12.1. Create your account at Turnitin.com.  Follow directions here.

12.2  Review the Compare and Contrast PowerPoint.  Review the following:

criteria
judgment
evidence

Make certain you understand the outlines for SEQUENCING and for BLOCKING/or CHUNKING.  It is best to copy down the outline format, since you'll need it in a minute.

Then review the EXAMPLES of Chunking and Sequencing below.  Plug each example into your outline format, identifying the CRITERIA, JUDGMENT (if you find it) and EVIDENCE/EXAMPLES/ILLUSTRATIONS OF THOSE CRITERIA.

Examples of Chunking and Sequencing (or on a day when your teacher is tired, "Cheeking and Sunquencing!").

Compare and contrast activity.

Evaluative Writing

Do some planning for your Evaluation Essay.   Fill out the "Evaluating Essay Collecting and Shaping Handout."  This will help remind your about the critera, evaluations, and judgments needed in your paper, and may also serve as an outline.

Hacker site quizzes:  Under "research exercises", click "MLA" and take the first two avoiding plagiarism quizzes.

View presentation on Writing Arguments.

Review Timeline and assignment for persuasive research paper.

Do a library search for a possible topic for your persuasive research paper.

ëCreate a Working Bibliography (Works Cited) page either writing by hand or using the computers.  Use correct MLA style. You should have at least four entries, but of course you need to expand your research further to write your paper.

Write a VERY DESCRIPTIVE title.

If you run out of things to do, work on creating an outline, a logical plan, or a first page for your paper.

Homework:

Read "Investigating" in your text and "The Barrel of the Gun" in The Perfect Storm.  Watch for writing techniques that we have studied (spatial order, chronological order, definition, classification, etc.) and underline them if you find them.

Have Evaluation Essay first draft ready for peer review.

Check timeline for Research paper to see what is due Wednesday.
