The Shasta College Music Department enthusiastically
offers a wide variety of music classes and is vibrantly dedicated
to serving all student clientele including music majors, pre-music
majors, general college students, and community/adult students.
Department enrollment within all music courses is approximately
1,500 per year. The Music Department offers an Associate Degree
(A.A.) in Music, a Certificate in Music, Music Transfer program,
and General Studies (Humanities) requirements. All interested
students (music major, non-music, major, and community/adult) are
strongly encouraged to participate within the music department
activities. The Music Department maintains a supportive and
congenial atmosphere.
Facilities include a Theater, Band Room, Choir Room, general
classrooms, practice rooms with pianos, and a Computer/Electronic
laboratory (Macintosh Power PC, synthesizers, and music
software).
Performance opportunities are provided by seven ensembles
ranging in size from over 100 to a chamber music orientation.
These performance ensembles are the Community Concert Band (120
member), Community Symphony Orchestra, Community Chorale,
Community Jazz Big Band, Chamber Choir, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz
Ensemble. Rehearsals occur during day and evening sessions
depending upon the ensemble.
Available full-term classroom courses include a series of six
music theory classes, six keyboard classes, the History of Jazz
and Rock (General Studies), Music Appreciation (General Studies),
Beginning Voice, Beginning Guitar, and a variety of short-term
courses. Applied Music (Instrumental and Vocal Studio Instruction)
is normally available for declared music majors.
