Dr. Larry Grandy has served full-time as Director of Bands and Jazz Studies at Shasta College since 1978. From 1975-1978, Dr. Grandy was the Conductor of the California State University at Chico Concert Band. Dr. Grandy is also a 1993/94 Senior Fulbright Professor. He received his Doctorate in Instrumental Music from Arizona State University, and his Master's of Art (with distinction) and Bachelor of Art in Music Education from California State University at Chico. He also holds a California State Single-Subject (Music) K-12 Teaching Credential. Dr. Grandy is a member of the International Association of Jazz Educators, Music Association of California Community Colleges, and the California Music Educators Association. Dr. Grandy is actively involved with International Music Education. During April 2000, Dr. Grandy was a visiting Professor and guest lecturer at James Cook University in Australia. In 1993/94 Dr. Grandy was granted by the government of the United States of America a prestigious Senior Fulbright Professor award with a teaching posting at the University of the West Indies within the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. During his Fulbright he taught the History of Jazz and Rock, Jazz Music Theory, and Advanced Traditional Music Theory at the University of the West Indies, and he regularly conducted the Royal Trinidad and Tobago Police Band. The United States Information Agency sent Dr. Grandy on a special lecture series to Barbados where he lectured on the History of Jazz and Rock and conducted the Royal Barbados Police Band, Barbados Defense Force Band, Barbados Symphonia, and the Barbados Youth Orchestra. Dr. Grandy has also acted as a Special Advisor to the government of St. Lucia (Ministry of Education) with the responsibility of advising the creation of a wind band program for the nation's educational system.
