Self-Assessment

For use by students for initial placement into a Shasta College Math Class

Welcome to the Shasta College Math Self-Assessment web page.  We are committed to offering the best quality mathematics program available. In order to achieve this goal, students need to be placed at the appropriate starting point. This guide is designed to help you make this decision. In order for this process to be effective, you must carefully consider all of the items presented below. As you go through the process, keep the following in mind:

	You will choose a math class based on your background and math skills.
	Be honest with yourself.   Don't choose a class that is too difficult.
	If you have not taken a math class recently (more than two years ago), consider a class that is one level below where you want to start.

A "transfer level" math class will require a transcript verifying that you have met the course prerequisite.

The process you will follow includes the following steps:

Step 0 - Do you need to do this? Step 1 - Understand the process. Step 2 - Evaluate your chance of success. Step 3 - Decide which kind of math course to enroll in. Step 4 - Select a non-transferable course. Step 5 - Select a transferable course. Step 6 - Choose a math class to enroll in. Step 7 - Print your results.
