3. Student Solutions Manual to accompany the text book (optional)
IMPORTANT: Bring all of the materials to class with you every day (except the solutions manual)
CLASS
PROCEDURE:
Class meetings consist of lectures, group work, individual work and discussions. Bring your basic materials (including the textbook) to all classes. We will not go over homework problems in class. If you need help with homework questions, please see me during my office hours or go to the Math Learning Center for help.
HOMEWORK:
Most homework will not be collected. However, you should complete the homework exercises in a timely manner and check your answers in the solutions manual. On the rare occasions when I collect homework, it must be turned in by the due date. Late homework will not be accepted.
GRADING PROCEDURE:
There will be several "midterm" exams, each worth 100 points, and a final exam worth 100 points. There will be a group project at the end of the semester worth 50 points. In computing your final grade I will replace your lowest "midterm" score with your score on the final exam, if your final exam score is higher. The table below shows the grading scale to be used.
Your grade for the course will be based on the ratio:
|
|
|
A
= 90% - 100% B
= 80% - 89% C
= 70% - 79% D
= 60% - 69% F
= 0% - 59% |
NOTE:
There are no "make-up" exams or "late" exams. All exams must be taken on the required day (In rare instances, it will be possible to take an exam early). Notice that it is possible to miss one "midterm" exam without being penalized. There are no-make up or late assignments of any kind. Late assignments will not be accepted. Assignments must be turned in on the due date before the class activity starts. Assignments will not be accepted after class has started. However, you may always turn in the work early. If the assignment is a group problem, each person in the group is responsible for the quality of the work turned in.
