February Moon

 The Moon rises

Staring like the lidless

Eye of a dragon

Peering over the fence

Staring into my bedroom

This would have given

The ancients pause

Most wondrous eye from

Another world

Peering onto our realm

Serpentine stare

Glaring from above

Impossible to look away

Such harshness rarely seen

Soon the Moon will

Resume its milky glow

The light a reverie

Meant to soothe a

Tortured soul

Old warrior laid to rest.

Your star shown bright

You did your best.

Another will take your place until

We use you up and stop this race

To certain explosive end.

Old warrior laid to rest.

Hated or feared

We honor you with accolade and                                                                                                 caissons.

Goose stepping soldiers in slow motion,

All in stride, no emotion.

Guns are drawn and the salute.

Armored cars and tanks,

Jet planes overhead.

Another old warrior is dead.
