Careers in
natural resources continue to show a bright future as California's
population
increases.
Forest protection and management; land use,
pollution, wildfire and floods; urban sprawl; and, population growth are
a few of the issues that are increasing the complexity of how California's resources can be best utilized while preserving them for
future generation. There is a need for everyone to understand a balanced
and multiple use role of scarce resources in a global economy.

The Great
Outdoors
Shasta College is
situated at the northern end of the Sacramento Valley
and surrounded by
mountains and lakes, which makes the study of natural resources
interesting and relevant. Field trips are common in all natural resources courses.
Work
Site Learning
Work site
learning during the summer or school year is a required part of
the
Natural Resources program. The College maintains areas of rangeland and
wildlife habitat, a mule deer study, fish ponds, Christmas trees,
recreation areas, and native trees. A variety of equipment is used to
maintain and develop these resources. Several private, State, and
Federal agencies are closely linked to the Natural Resources program primarily as work site stations.
Advisory
Committee Guidance
All programs
offered are periodically reviewed by a broad cross section of community
business and professional people. These industry representatives help to
ensure an up-to-date program.
