Shasta College Forestry/Natural Resources Program

Careers in natural resources continue to show a bright future as California's population increases. Forest protection and management; land use, pollution, wildfire and floods; urban sprawl; and, population growth are a few of the issues that are increasing the complexity of how California's resources can be best utilized while preserving them for future generation. There is a need for everyone to understand a balanced and multiple use role of scarce resources in a global economy.

Work Site Learning

Work site learning during the summer or school year  is a required part of the Natural Resources program.  The College maintains areas of rangeland and wildlife habitat, a mule deer study, fish ponds, Christmas trees, recreation areas, and native trees. A variety of equipment is used to maintain and develop these resources. Several private, State, and Federal agencies are closely linked to the Natural Resources program primarily as work site stations.
