At
the Trinity River
Ravens
rise from the sand
Leave
a single feather, leave
Spirals
of finger and clawprints.
The
beginning of evening
A
shared idea
The
rest we could come to
If
we could forgive
All
the heartache
Wronged
promises
Deserted
plans.
If
we could
Rise
to the blue above the Trinity,
Listen
to the wash of waves upon
rock,
See
river snow-cold swelling.
Rise
from the unconscious earth
Rise
above the silt
Rise
and leave our single marks
Thoughtless
behind us.
