Staff Drive Donation Highlights
Coral Sea Oceanography Vessel
For the last four semesters, the Foundation has enthusiastically
co-sponsored the Coral Sea, Humboldt State University’s 90 ft.
research vessel, for Randy Reed’s Oceanography class. This
4-hour cruise enables students to use instruments on the vessel,
obtain water samples off the side of the boat, recover sediment
off the ocean floor and acquire microorganisms with a plankton
net. Virtually no other community colleges have access to a
vessel like the Coral Sea.
Violin Soloist Bella Hristova
On March 2, 2008, Dr. Richard Fiske once again proudly hosted
International Prize-Winning Violinist from Bulgaria, Bella
Hristova, for an unforgettable afternoon accompanying the Shasta
Symphony Orchestra. Audiences from the Caribbean to the Pacific
Northwest have heard the blossoming artistry of Bella’s violin
playing, which she performs on a 1655 Amati, once owned by the
famous violinist Louis Krasner.
Distinguished Author Series featuring
Tony D’Souza, author of Whiteman and The Konkans
On April 23 and 24, 2008, the Foundation is proud to sponsor
former Shasta College English teacher, Tony D’Souza, author of
the acclaimed novel, Whiteman, and his newly released novel, The
Konkans. Tony will be spending two days at Shasta College
teaching Creative Writing classes and presenting an evening
reading.
