Free alternative to MicroSoft Word wordprocessing program.  I haven't tried this but have heard it's a good freeware.

Guide to Grammar and Writing: Stuck at the computer and can't find your Brief Holt Handbook? This page from Webster University offers quick and easy-to-follow explanations of complicated grammatical questions.

Guide to MLA Documentation: Something to guide you through your Works Cited list as well as the arcania of in-text citations.

Landmarks Citation Machine:  Let's you enter in publication information and it produces the MLA citation for it. Of course, you have to enter in the information correctly. . .

Writing About Literature:  Purdue University's OWL provides this helpful information.

Avoiding Plagiarism:  Purdue University's guidelines to staying out of trouble.

Dictionary:  The American Heritage Dictionary, available through Yahoo.  

Roget's Thesaurus: Looking for the right word or for a synonym of it? The perfect source for synonyms.

Strunk and White's Elements of Style: This is the classic manifesto of what good style (i.e., what sounds good) in English.

A Word a Day: If you receive email, this site sends will automatically send you a new word a day, along with its definition and history. A great way to build your vocabulary painlessly.
