Printmaking class at Shasta College is design to be an
introductory course surveying
printmaking techniques as a fine arts medium. Students are exposed to the
four basic printing processes including; relief, intaglio, stencil, and
planographic processes. Through project outlines, slide lecture, films,
demonstrations, and one to one instruction
students
will be guided to complete and edition of five prints for each processes
including linoleum / woodcut, etching, silkscreen and monotype techniques.
Students learn to develop personal imagery as well as an awareness of
aesthetics and compositional
elements.
The Printmaking lab is equipped with two etching presses,
carbon arch photo room and
full
silkscreen setups for student use. The program has been very successful with
many
former students winning regional, state and national awards
for the prints they have completed in this class.
