NANCY TOOLAN
  

I am fascinated with the play of both natural and artificial light on objects and how it draws one’s attention to subtle detail and the ephemeral nature of life around us. I find myself struggling to hold on to a way of seeing and experiencing life that is increasingly being overrun by the fast paced demands of modern life. While the visual elements of my most recent work have been pared down, they compel me to look more closely at things and to study life around me. As my work has become more simplified in composition and material it has more successfully focused on that which is both art and life to me. My efforts attempting to capture the inherently transient qualities of life cause me to feel most at peace.
