Computer Aided Drafting and Design - As a Career

Computer aided Drafting technology graduates are prepared for entry drafting positions with the potential to advance into design or other area of specialization. Generally, there is more opportunity for advancement in mechanical drafting but more of these jobs are out of the Redding area. As the drafting technician gains skill and experience advancement to higher-level positions such as designer, checker or drafting manager may be possible. Since drafting and design are at the heart of industry many non-title related job opportunities also become available. With further education, and individual working as a drafting technician may gain engineering status. |

After initial employment, advancement will depend largely on initiative, ability to maintain good personal relationships, and willingness to continue to study. Advancements in drafting, as in other occupations, are awarded as the opportunity arises and are given to those who are prepared to earn them.
The lifetime earnings of community college graduate had been at least 50% greater than, just high school graduates. The ratio of jobs available is greatest for the technician level, greater even than for the BA graduate. The prospects for the high school only graduate to find work and then advance are becoming more and more bleak. |
