The Civil engineering technician may do any type of drafting work needed by the civil engineer, or civil technical work such as calculations, concerning the strength or cost of materials. The Civil Tech may make measurements to determine the size, shape, or position of engineering structures, or survey land or property, or work in a testing laboratory to obtain basic information to solve engineering problems. These positions will be found both in private industry, and in government working for Caltran, private industry, the Forest Service etc. |
| As the civil engineering technician gains skill and experience, advancements to higher level positions may be likely. Technicians who further their education may gain engineering status. |
