Our Mission

The mission of the Disability Service Programs for Students, (DSPS), at Shasta College is to promote equal access to programs and facilities, to provide the opportunity for students to achieve their optimal level of independence, and to be a resource center for all staff and students.

The Disability Service Programs for Students coordinates services for students with permanent or temporary disabilities through the Learning Services Office and the Assistive Technology Lab.  We arrange for test facilitation, use of specialized equipment, textbooks on tape, and the provision of educational assistants.  For more information, contact the Shasta College DSPS at  (530) 242-7790.

There is a fine line between "abled" and "disabled". Approximately 6% of all disabilities are acquired prior to birth, 94% are acquired at a later time.   Among the faculty, staff and students at Shasta College there are many people with disabilities.  We in the DSPS will be happy to work closely with you in making sure that you receive the accommodations that will promote your success at Shasta College.

"...Together we are learning: "...the problem is not the person with disabilities; the problem is the way normalcy is constructed to create the problem of the disabled person."
