Welcome to the dental hygiene home page.
The dental hygiene program is a two-year Associate Degree
program of full-time classroom and clinical instruction. The program
is designed to prepare the student who, upon successful completion of the
National Board Examination and the California State Board Examination, will
be able to provide oral health care in dental hygiene within the scope of
practice as defined by the State of California.
The Shasta College Dental Hygiene Program is fully
accredited by the American Dental Association Joint Commission on Dental
Accreditation. The success and ranking for the National Board
Examination remains in the top 10% of the nation which has 273 dental
hygiene programs.
Registered Dental Hygienists (RDH) provide preventive
oral health care and education in a variety of settings: private practice,
community health fairs, school classrooms, and extended care facilities.
They are an integral part of the dental team.
A career in dental hygiene is diverse and includes:
general and dental specialties, dental hygiene education programs,
veterinary dental hygiene, sales and marketing, research, administration,
and legislation.
