What is Colleague?
Colleague is the name of an administrative software package designed by
Datatel, Inc. to meet the advanced information management needs of
institutions of higher education. With Colleague, information entered into
the system immediately becomes online, real-time data for the end user to
access Colleague's four integrated systems –
the Student, Financial, Human
Resource, and Institutional Advancement Systems – which provide
an enterprise-wide solution. The Core System is at the center of
Colleague’s integration, providing a central location for information,
workflow development, and processing rules used throughout Colleague.
The integration of the systems provides the college with the capability to
share information campus-wide while providing enhanced stability and
increased user interface options.
3.
How will Colleague affect the HP Program we use?
The
Colleague administrative software will replace the HP information management
software packages that Shasta College now uses. The college will migrate,
i.e., transfer, all of its data and business and administrative functions
from those systems to Colleague.
4.
How will the change to Colleague affect me?
Everyone who currently uses HP will take part in training to learn the new
system. One of the major changes will be from the text-based environment we
now encounter on these programs to Colleague's graphical user interface
(GUI). This means that in Colleague, users will interact with the system
through a point and click environment much like that in most software
programs in use today. Also many of our processes may change to some extent,
perhaps with steps eliminated, or with a standardized method of data entry,
for example. Each of us will need to learn these changes as part of our
Colleague training.
5.
Will students use Colleague?
Yes,
among other functions, it is planned that the students will use Colleague in
order to register themselves, online, for classes using Datatel's
WebAdvisor.
6.
When will I be able to use Colleague?
The financial system and
Human Resources
of Colleague became operational in July 2002. The rest of the
implementation schedule calls for the following:
Curriculum, December 2002
Admissions, January 2003
Financial Aid, January 2003
Registration & Accounts Receivable March 2003
7.
When will I be trained to use the new Colleague administrative software?
All
end users of the new system will receive training appropriate to their job
responsibilities. This so-called end-user training will take place
immediately before the different parts of the system "go live." Training
immediately before using the system should result in the best retention of
the information and the most efficient use of the faculty and staff's time.
