The
Construction 2+2+2 project is a project that was grant funded by the North-Far
North Regional Consortia and is being managed under
the direction of the Center for Science, Industry, and Natural Resources (SINR)
at Shasta College. The goals of this project are:
- develop a clear, well-communicated
career pathway for high school students to enter the construction
industry that will include a paid internship program with local
contractors;
- develop strategies for informing
students, parents, and counselors about career opportunities in the
construction field;
- develop and adopt a standardized
curriculum by all participating high school construction programs to ensure a base skill set
for 2+2+2 internship program members.
The objectives of the project as
defined in the grant are:
-
Develop collaborative Oversight
Committee represented by Shasta College, local high schools, ROP, Shasta
Builder's Exchange, Association of General Contractors, CSU Chico
Construction Mgt. program, and the local union.
-
Standardize the construction
curriculum that will be used by all of the high school and ROP construction
programs in the area.
-
Develop and implement model that
increases enrollments in high school and ROP construction programs and
provides a career pathway from high school to community college to industry
to university.
Three subcommittees have been defined to address the specific work areas of:
