Hi !  I am Cliff Gottlieb and I have been teaching at Shasta College for over 20 years.  This is the perfect job for me and I really like it.

I was born in New York City, grew up in a small town in South Carolina, went to college at the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay (GO PACKERS!!!), lived in Santa Monica on the beach for a couple of years, then returned to school at UC, Davis, and finally moved here.

My undergraduate degrees are in environmental chemistry and population ecology (I have two BS degrees).  My graduate work was in environmental chemistry and much of my current academic interests involves the environment.  I am also interested in chemical applications in consumer products and in everyday life and especially the chemistry of beer and wine making and analysis.  Last but not least I am interested in how the brain works and how people learn.

I am involved in a number of grants and projects which include enhancing online science education and working with K-12 teachers in science education.  I visit a number of schools every year and put on chemistry shows.    I have been teaching online courses for a number of years and am continuing to enhance current courses and develop new ones.

My personal interests include being with my family, snow skiing, whitewater and ocean kayaking, sailing, and of course traveling.  I try to keep fit and bicycle to work everyday.  I read voraciously.   I work hard but I also like to play hard.
