WELCOME!!!!

When you take one of my online classes, you get the same exact notes that I use in my face-to-face classes, links to excellent other websites, and the most attentive online instructor period!  During the week and on most weekends your question will be answered no later than the next day and most of the time within 12 hours.  I am planning to add audio files of me lecturing using the notes online for those who like the extra modality of hearing.

Class begins on August 18, and you will not be able to access the class until then.  But it is IMPERATIVE that you LOG ON TO THE SHASTA ONLINE CLASS ON August 18!!! You have things that you need to complete

The entire course is on the internet.  Unless unusual situations occur, there is no face to face component to the course.

This version of this course will be delivered over the internet using a program called the Shasta College Online program.  This delivery system allows students the freedom to set their own schedule for completing the coursework.  You must be comfortable with working on computers and using the internet.  If you are not, do not enroll in this course.  Do not expect significant technical computer assistance from me or Shasta College.  You also must expect to spend the same amount of time on this course to what you would have spent on the face to face version of this course.  You should log onto this course everyday, check the course calendar, and make sure all of your work is up to date. You should expect to spend at least nine hours per week on this course.  Furthermore you must have sufficient self-discipline to set and adhere to your own and to the course’s timelines.  The internet version of this course is equal to or more rigorous than the face to face version.  DO NOT FALL BEHIND!!

Learning styles:  If your main learning style is audio/listening, an internet course is probably not for you unless you read the notes and text and record that on your mp3 player.  Go to http://www.vark-learn.com to take a short learning style questionnaire to find you primary learning style(s).

This an INTERNET only course and is very different from a face to face course. It is entirely online.

Get this First Day Handout  and READ this first!!!  An internet course is more difficult for many students because it depends solely on self discipline.

The text book that you will need is The Extraordinary Chemistry of Ordinary Things, 4th ed. by Carl Snyder.  ISBN 0-471-41575-8  Available at the Shasta College Bookstore or any on-line book retailer.

In the online course, there are the worksheets from which your quizzes will be generated.  The quizzes will from material covered off  the worksheets.  These worksheets are for you to complete in preparation for the quizzes; you do not have to turn them in.  I have provided answer sheets also.  If you have any questions about any of the material, let me know.  I will also provide you with a study guide for each exam.  The exam questions come right off the study guide.  I do not provide the answers to the study guide.  That is your job.

I also have provided lots of notes and hyperlinks for the class and I am always adding more.   These  should be used in addition to the text.
