Nutrition

Shasta College offers several nutrition courses, which are part of various degrees and certificate programs.  Each course is designed to meet the needs of a specific study area.  One important key to a healthy lifestyle is proper nutrition, knowledge of which will enhance your life!  These courses will provide you with the opportunity to evaluate your own dietary choices, identify and evaluate current trends and "fads" in nutrition  and much much more!

FSS 25 Nutrition focuses on the science of food, the nutrients and other substances therein, their actions, interactions and balance in relation to health and disease.  This class emphasizes the positive contributions of nutrition to life and health.  Now also available online!

FSS 26 Nutrition through the Life Span emphasizes the basic principles of nutrition as they apply to different age groups, focusing on nutrient needs during pregnancy, lactation, infancy, adolescence, childhood, adulthood, and aging.

FSS 27 Nutrition and Disease is a comprehensive study of the relationship between patient, their diet and optimum health, stressing the dietary modifications necessary due to specific physiological conditions in the clinical setting.  (This course has a prerequisite: grade of C or higher in FSS 25).  Available online Spring 2009.
