A little bit more about
me –
I grew up in
Los
Alamos, New Mexico. My dad worked at
Los Alamos National Laboratories, a subsidiary of University of CA,
and my mom owned
Sage Montessori School. My first job ever was pulling weeds in the
Sage School parking lot.
I received my undergraduate degree in economics from the
University of New Mexico in 1993 . I
worked in financial arenas for several years afterwards. I worked at a bank
in Albuquerque, and later as an analyst / accountant for a credit company in
Phoenix.
Early in 2000, I applied for and eventually was able to get hired as a
Program Director at West Hills
College in Coalinga, CA. Being back in the education environment
re-ignited my aspiration to learn and around this time I began working on my
M.B.A. at National University, Fresno.
In late 2000, I was asked if I had any desire to teach. Not having done
so in the past and not really knowing what I was getting myself into, I
gladly took on a computer science class at WHC North District center. I
learned a lot that semester. As the years went by and I earned my Masters
degree, I was fortunate enough to be asked back and to teach part time
online Economics and Business Administration courses. It was this series of
events that caused the epiphany that teaching was in my blood. I am a better at
and enjoy teaching more than I enjoyed being a financial analyst (comparative
advantage, that’ll make a lot more sense once the class is underway!).
In 2004, I applied for and was lucky enough to be asked to join the
California Department of Forestry
(CDF) as a financial analyst. As a result of being hired on at CDF, moved from Coalinga to Redding, CA. When
I got settled in
Redding, applied for a teaching position at Shasta College. A couple
of years later I was asked to join the Shasta College team as an adjunct
economics instructor. A half-year after that I was asked to join Shasta College
full time. I resigned from CDF in Summer, 2006, and have been I have
been here at Shasta College in various capacities over a year now.
I live
with two dogs and a cat in a little suburb of
Redding, Palo Cedro. For some
reason, since I was in the country, I had to have a used
tractor to plow the
front
yard, but basically have just made a mess out
of the road. Like to get out in a little RV trailer as time permits and
I’ve taken up skeet shooting as a hobby. I’m awful at it but have fun.
Like to play golf as much as I can and will frequently hike/bike the trails around the Sundial Bridge here in
Redding.
