B.S. Dental Hygiene
Offered through the University Center at Shasta College
Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) is one of seven colleges and
universities that comprise the Oregon State System of Higher Education. The
college located in Klamath Falls, Oregon, is fully accredited by the
Northwest Association of Schools and colleges.
Program Description
Oregon Institute of Technology’s on-line degree-completion program enables
professional dental hygienists to complete a Bachelor of Science in Dental
Hygiene without giving up their current positions to continue their
schooling. The program integrates dental hygiene and management courses with

The program is primarily offered on-line through the internet (Web CT
platform), utilizing mail, email, telephone and fax. Students have the
option of meeting with OIT faculty one Saturday per quarter on the Shasta
College campus.
Prerequisites
To be eligible to apply, students must:
1. Be graduates of an accredited dental-hygiene program or receive
departmental approval prior to enrolling. The A.S. degree in Dental Hygiene
from Shasta College satisfies this requirement. See articulation agreement

2. Successfully complete the Dental Hygiene National Board Examination.
3. Be licensed or eligible for licensure in the state where they live.
4. Meet the Oregon Tech admission criteria. Transfer applicants must have a
cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better and a minimum of 36 credits.
Coursework
The OIT programs consists of 17 courses, or a total of 50 units. Students
completing two courses per term, (for example, beginning in the summer after
the A.S. in Dental Hygiene), can complete the baccalaureate degree in two
years.
Getting Started …..
1. Print and complete the On-line Degree Completion Program Application for
Admission (and the checklist), provided in PDF format on the OIT website.
2. Mail your application, a copy of your National Dental Hygiene Board
results and a check for $100 (made out to Oregon Institute of Technology) to
the OIT Distance Ed Office.
3. Request that official transcripts from all colleges you have attended be
sent to Oregon Tech's Distance Education Office.
4. Request a letter of good standing from the National Dental Hygiene Board
be mailed to the OIT Distance Education Office. This letter will enable the
Registrar to grant college credit based on your licensure.
Costs : Fall 2004, approximately $750 for two courses per quarter.
